The postage stamp issue dedicated to the ninth centenary of the foundation of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Piacenza offers Vatican philately an opportunity to promote a project of the Diocese of Piacenza-Bobbio given to the non-profit association “La Ricerca,” which has engaged the help of guests at Don Venturini House, a home for people living with HIV. “They have broken up into different parts the Cathedral of Piacenza and then remade it with the colors reflecting their sentiments.” In this way a giant poster of the facade of Piacenza’s Cathedral was divided into 18 pieces that were given to the artist apprentices to reinterpret them by painting each with their own sensitivity. A workshop followed, culminating in the assemblage of the small paintings that in their uniqueness brought alive with warmth and life the appearance of the Cathedral’s ancient facade. The panel is reproduced on the Vatican stamp celebrating this anniversary and is also the symbol that accompanied the event celebrations in the Piacenza-Bobbio area throughout 2022.
