The Europa postage stamp (also known as Europa - CEPT until 1992) is an annual joint issue of stamps with a common design or theme by postal administrations of member countries of the European Communities (1956–1959), the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) from 1960 to 1992, and the PostEurop Association since 1993. Europe is the central theme. The Europa theme for 2012 is "Visit...". The choice of this wide-ranging theme gives full freedom in interpreting it, whether looking at topics such as travel for tourism or culture. Vatican City issued two €0,75 stamps that depict two of the most common images from a pilgrim's visit to Rome: 1. The dome of St. Peter's Basilica against the early morning sky. 2. The dove, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, in the window above the Chair of St Peter, designed by Bernini, in the apse of St. Peter's Basilica. The UFN describes these two images as "representative of a journey to the center of Christianity, to St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican is itself an expression of the evangelization of peoples and the universal mission of the Church. The photographs depicted in the stamps are credited to Biagio Tamararzo. The stamps were issued in sheets of 10.
