The Europa postage stamp (also known as Europa - CEPT until 1992) is an annual joint issue of stamps with a common design or theme by postal administrations of member countries of the European Communities (1956–1959), the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) from 1960 to 1992, and the PostEurop Association since 1993. Europe is the central theme. 
"Ecology in Europe - Think Green" was the Europa theme for 2016. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Europa stamps, PostEurop decided to have a common design for all its member States and organized a contest to design stamps based on the theme, "Ecology in Europe -Think Green". A total of 24 designs were submitted based on the chosen theme, to compete for the honor of having their image on the 2016 EUROPA stamps. Up to 216 confidential votes were received from 36 PostEurop members whose designs were anonymously published. Based on the number of votes received, the design from Cypriot artist Doxia Sergidou emerged as the winner. The second place went to Posta Slovenije and in third place, Magyar Posta. Doxia Sergidou won the competition with a design depicting two visions—a city shaded in gray using fossil fuels for its development, and a city shaded in green, with flying birds, trees, a bicyclist, and wind turbines. A stylized hand appears in the top, center of the scene suggesting that an improved environment is possible with human intervention. The €0,95 stamps were printed in sheets of six stamps, with the selvage continuing the scene of a bicycle rider and a tree against the background of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica.
