The annual Easter stamp consists of a stamp and a miniature sheet. The design is from the Gallery of Flemish Tapestries in the Vatican Museums. The design by Pieter van Aelst is based upon a design by the Raphael School. Van Aelst (1507-1550) created a design of the Risen Christ leaving the tomb which his left hand holding a flag (more visible on the miniature sheet) with a red cross on a white background symbolizing the Resurrection. In the foreground are soldiers sent to guard the tomb who flee from the scene. 
250,000 copies of the €1,00 stamp were printed in sheets of ten. 80,000 miniature sheets containing a single €4,50 stamp were produced.
