2018 marks the 40th anniversary of "the year of three popes." which have been chronicled in Vatican Notes. The three articles, by Michael Lamothe and James Hamilton published in the second, third, and fourth quarters of 2018, can be referenced below and provide you with a wealth of information. Pope Paul VI was canonized on 14 October. 2018 (along with Archbishop Oscar Romero of San Salvador). Two stamps, designed by Daniela Fusco, were issued by the Vatican to honor the two Popes. The €1,10 stamp depicts Paul VI in profile. A papal tiara which he sold to raise money for charity is depicted, along with a ship which, UFN's brochure states, symbolizes the Barque of St Peter which he steered through stormy seas confronting a secular and hostile society. The €1,15 stamp depicts a profile of Pope John Paul I, formerly Albino Luciani the Patriarch of Venice, whose pontificate lasted only 33 days. The design includes his gestatorial chair and the stole given to Archbishop Albino Luciani in 1972. His motto, "Humilitas", and an image of the eternal love of God completes the design. Each stamp was issued in sheets of ten.
