The 2016 postcards mark the Holy Year of Mercy with four mosaics by artist Rev. Marco Rupnik, S.J., a Slovenian artist who directs Rome's Ezio Aletti Studio and Research Center. The Center's goal is to make "art as an integral part of worship." Fr. Rupnik is also a theologian with the Pontifical Oriental Institute. His studio produced mosaics for the St. John Paul II National Shrine in Washington DC. The four postal cards emphasize Gospel themes: the healing of the paralytic (€0,95), the healing of the blind man (€1,00), the forgiveness of the adulterous woman (€2,30), and the healing of the man born blind (€3,00). The postcard cover features the deposition from the cross. Father Rupnik's design in the style of the postcards is also featured on the postal indicia which reproduces the account of the descent into hell.
