The annual set of postal cards for 2017 features designs associated with the "International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development," sponsored by the United Nations General Assembly on 4 December 2015 relating to sustainable tourism resulting from sustainable development goals. It highlighted the importance of government policies, business practices and consumer behavior for building a more sustainable tourism sector. The Vatican City postcards were issued in €0,95, €1,00, €2,30, and €3,00 values. A fifth postcard was included as the cover for the postcard folder but does not include a postal indicia. The postcards and indicia feature designs of sculpture and scenes associated with Vatican City.
