 World Youth Day 2023: Recalled Stamp Minisheet, Scott 1828M Last week, our good friend and VPS member Dan Bayer, the owner of Penny Black Stamp Company, shared the image above, showing a mini-sheet of 10 of the recalled World Youth Day (WYD) 2023 stamp (Vatican Scott 1828). Released on May 16, 2023, it is estimated that around 2000 WYD stamps were sold prior to their recall from sale on May 18, 2023. Doing the math, that leaves only around 200 sheets of ten being sold, making the intact sheet exceedingly rare. Dan adds the following regarding the current market for the recalled stamp:
The GMG margin inscription cited by Dan would be tied to the stamps in the upper right and lower left corners of the sheet. A recent check of Ebay (United States access) shows seventeen (17) of the recalled stamps listed. All are listed by a dealer from Italy, Filatelia De Simoni, based in Milan. Of the dealer’s listings, nine of the stamps have the GMG margin inscription. All stamps are listed for sale for over $1000 each.
