Looking for something to celebrate today? Well, we have found an anniversary to celebrate today! Today is June 28th. On this date in 1933, the Vatican Central Post Office building was dedicated by Pope Pius XI, making the Post Office building 91 years old in 2024. Isn't that something we can celebrate? Just think how many postmarks have come out of that building in 91 years!! Anybody care to come up with some kind of an estimate? The Vatican Central Post Office building was originally built as a single one-story building with a basement. The second and third story floors were added during the papacy of Pope John XXIII. We've never been able to get any knowledge of exactly what is in the basement but if it took over two years to be able to get a photograph of the front of the building, it might take a little longer to get information about the Central Post Office basement. Believe me, someone on the VPS website team is working on it! Enjoy the day and do celebrate the 91st anniversary of the Vatican Central Post Office building. However, don't celebrate too much because we have another anniversary celebration coming up in August. Then there is also Vatican Stamp Day on October 19th at the Spellman Museum of Stamps And Postal History. Have you made your travel plans yet? Who said the Vatican Philatelic Stamp Society members don't have a lot of fun? ![]() Central Post Office Building |
