![]() Saint Peter's Square Scott E11 (1949) For those who have visited the Vatican over the years, one interesting site in the square has been the Vatican Post Office trailer. While viewing the festivities on Christmas Eve and the opening of the Holy Door to start the Jubilee Year of 2025, numerous panoramic shots of the square were broadcast. But the Post Office trailer seemed to be missing from the pictures of square. As it turns out, here is the reason why. The Post Office trailer in St. Peter's Square has been dismantled and has been replaced with a shiny new spaceship-like mobile post office. A ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new post office was held on December 19, just in time for the Christmas and Jubilee celebrations. The building was constructed in collaboration with the Italian Post Office. Here is a look at the new facility: ![]() New Postal Station Saint Peter's Square Photo courtesy of Fr. Gaurav Shroff Although there have been rumors that the Vatican Post Office has been closed, we have been assured that the Post Office is open and running, although we have learned there have been some limitations on the quantity of stamps that can be purchased at any one time. It remains frustrating that stamps from the Vatican have only been available for customers walking into the Vatican Post Office sites, as the CFN website remains unavailable (still down for “site maintenance”). Some VPS members have reported getting recent Vatican City stamp releases from Italian dealers selling products online. Despite reports that the website was due to reopen in early January, it remains closed, and we have not received any new information from contacts at CFN and the Vatican Post Office. But stay tuned: we are promise to let you know when the CFN website reopens. Here is a YouTube video showing the opening of the new Saint Peter’s Square post office.
