Pope Leo XIV presided over the ceremony which was attended by thousands of the faithful. With a large portrait of the saint hanging from the facade of the basilica, and after a biography of Cardinal Newman was read, the Pope announced the following (in Latin): “We, welcoming the desire of many brothers in the episcopate and many faithful throughout the world, after consulting the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, having given careful consideration and having reached a full and certain conviction, with the fullness of apostolic authority, declare Saint John Henry Newman a Doctor of the Universal Church.”Please check out the two references below for additional details on the Mass, which include images from the ceremony.
