I received an email from an alert reader of the Daily Email sent to our members on January 8 on Saint Raymond of Penyafort (Raymond of PeƱafort): "Hi Lou! Happy New Year! Loved your write up on St. Raymond of Penyafort (patron of canon lawyers!). The publication of the Decretals of Gregory IX took place in 1234, not 1274-- indeed, the stamp for the International Juridic Conference that took place in 1934 was for the seven hundredth anniversary of that publication, as the stamps themselves note, "VII saeculo a decretalibus Gregorii IX promulgatis." Those decretals, which came to be called the Liber Extra were indeed a major reference point for all canon laws that followed, as you noted." (bolding added for emphasis)Many thanks for pointing out the error, and to all our members who read our Daily Emails. The VPS Website Team hopes they bring some enjoyment and engagement each day. We encourage everyone's comments, ideas and CORRECTIONS. |
