Is the logjam with CFN orders finally breaking? Two VPS members have reported receiving orders this week, and both orders were placed only about a month ago (no 90-day wait). Not sure what the explanation is, but we can only hope CFN has turned the corner with getting orders processed in a more timely manner. Given the dearth of material available from the Vatican over the last couple of years, these reported improvements are welcome news. And since dealers are restricted regarding the amount of material they can buy, their stock is limited and the old economic principle applies regarding supply and demand. Members who have not set up accounts with CFN may want to reconsider so they can access Vatican philatelic material. Establishing an account on the CFN website is a bit of a chore, but it may now be worth it. And with CFN using UPS as their carrier, there is reliable tracking and order monitoring (just be sure to be home to sign for your packages, or to pick them up at a drop-off point). As a reminder, the first quarter 2026 stamp release from Vatican City comes out tomorrow (Thursday, February 26). Let's hope the new and improved efficiency at CFN remains intact during this next ordering period. ![]() Travels of Pope Benedict XVI, 2010: Spain Scott 1489 (2011) Last week, workers placed the upper arm on the cross which tops the Tower of Jesus at the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. This project results in bringing the church to its final height of 172.5 meters (566 feet), making it the tallest church in world. Prior to this, the distinction of the world’s tallest church was held by the Ulm Minster in Germany, whose steeple towers 161.5 meters (530.0 ft). When completed in 1890, this was the fourth-tallest structure in the world. The groundbreaking for the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia was in 1882: over 140 years ago. It was designed by the famed architect Antoni Gaudí. This year is being celebrated as “Gaudí Year 2026” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death. In 2003, the Catholic Church opened the cause for Gaudí’s canonization, recognizing his reputation for holiness. He now carries the title “Servant of God,” the first step in the canonization process. During a visit to Barcelona in 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the Basilica of the Sagrada Família, formally elevating Gaudí's masterpiece to minor basilica status. Vatican City issued a stamp in 2011 remembering his visit to Spain. The stamp features an image of the Basilica along the left margin. If all goes according to schedule, the Basilica will be completed in 2034. REFERENCE: |
