Late yesterday afternoon, Poste Vaticane issued press releases for four stamps that will be available for sale next week. The four issues are: Images of the stamps can be viewed by clicking on the Poste Vaticane link in the References below. That will take you to the press releases, with the new stamps being covered on pages 1 to 8 (the “Communicati” is in Italian but can be easily translated using online tools). The new stamps are scheduled to go on sale this coming Monday, September 28. In addition to the new stamps, the Poste Vaticane document contains a press release for a special postmark for the pope's trip to France, which starts today (September 25). That press release is found on pages 9 and 10. One additional heads-up: the Vatican is participating in a joint release commemorating the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. Italy, San Marino and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) are the other participants in this release. Last week, SMOM announced the schedule for their latest stamps, which will be released on September 30. They also announced the date for the Saint Francis issue, which is scheduled for release on October 4, the feast day for Saint Anthony.
