![]() First Anniversary of the Election of Pope Leo XIV Scott 1928 (2026) SCOTT NUMBERS FOR VATICAN CITY STAMPS For the last two years, the Scott Catalogue had not updated its section on Vatican City. As a result, there were no Scott numbers assigned to all the new stamps issued since September of 2024. The problem traces back to the upheaval that occurred at CFN in late 2024, and the subsequent difficulties in getting new Vatican stamps. However, thanks to the assistance of VPS member Dan Bayer at the Penny Black Stamp Company, Scott has analyzed, photographed and cataloged the missing stamps. There are three pages of Vatican City stamps, dating from November 2024 through May 2026, in the October issue of “Scott’s Stamp Monthly” (see pages 70 to 72). Thanks to Dan for his work in helping Scott get the catalogue up-to-date. There has been a lot of coverage of the new Saint Francis of Assisi stamp, commemorating the 800th anniversary of his death. The stamp, issued as a souvenir sheet, was jointly unveiled by all the postal authorities on the Italian peninsula (Italy, San Marino, Vatican City and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta) at a ceremony in Assisi on Friday, October 2. The Vatican was represented at the ceremony by Sister Raffaella Petrini, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State. Here is a link to the press releases on the Poste Vaticane website for the new Vatican City stamp, its special postmark, and the folder celebrating the release (all found on the first four pages of the Communicati): LINK Also, page 5 of the Communicati shows a special postmark released by Vatican City over the weekend for the 50th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Beatriz de Silva, the 15th century Portuguese noblewoman who founded the monastic Order of the Immaculate Conception. The postmark is dated October 3, 2026. |
