Today's Page 2 link below connects the reader to another excerpt from the 1954 article by Vatican Philatelic Society president William Wonneberger, entitled "The Vatican's Postage Stamps". <br><br> The entry today reviews three stamp issues. The first is the Pope Pius XII issue from 1940, a set of five general postage stamps issued to replace those depicting the late Pope Pius XI. The article also makes note of two subsequent stamp issues which bore similar designs to the 1940 issue. The issue of 1945 was expanded to contain eight general stamps and two espresso stamps. The issue of 1946 were surcharged printings of the 1945 issue, produced to account for changes in postal rates following World War II. <br><br> The article first appeared in the book <b>Vatican</b>, published by the National Philatelic Museum in conjunction with the Vatican Marian Year Philatelic Exhibition, held at the Museum in September, 1954.
