</center> Lives of the Most Excellent Italian Painters, Sculptures and Architects from Cimabue to Our Times. Usually referred to as "Lives of the Painters", it includes biographies of 150 artists from the mid-thirteenth to the mid-sixteenth centuries. As an architect he was responsible for construction of the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, and decoration of the dome of the Basilica Santa Maria del Fiore, all located in Florence.

The €2,00 aerogramme features the artist's self-portrait. The postal imprint shows small detail from the lower left corner of one of Vasari's frescos, The Battle of Lepanto 7th October 1571, (shown above) on display in the Sala Regia of the Vatican Museums.
