The Europa postage stamp (also known as Europa - CEPT until 1992) is an annual joint issue of stamps with a common design or theme by postal administrations of member countries of the European Communities (1956–1959), the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) from 1960 to 1992, and the PostEurop Association since 1993. Europe is the central theme. 			 			 			 			 
"Bridges" was the Europa theme for 2018. Artist Stefano Morn produced designs for the two stamps printed in sheets of ten. The €0,95 stamp depicts St. Peter with the Pointe Sant' Angelo bridge in the background, which crosses the Tiber River to Hadrian's Mausoleum, now known as the Castel Sant' Angelo. The Emperor, Hadrian, ruled 117-138. The mausoleum was completed prior to his death. It was sacked by invading Visigoths and Goths in the 5th and 6th centuries. The castle served as a fortress, prison, and papal residence (connected by a long corridor to the papal residence) and is now a museum. The new St. Peter's Basilica is depicted in the far background of the stamp. The design for the €1,00 value is St. John of Nepomuk (ca. 1345-1393), a patron of bridge builders, a Czech heroic figure, and a martyr for protecting the seal of the confessional. John of Nepomuk was the queen's confessor who refused to reveal the secrets of confessional. He was tortured and then drowned in the Moldau River. St. John of Nepomuk is depicted on Prague's Charles Bridge which spans the Vitava River (Moldau in German). It is one of the most well-known bridges and monuments in Europe, with statues of historic and other figures on both sides of the pathway. St. Vitus Cathedral is depicted in the far distance on the stamp.
