A miniature sheet, also a joint issue by Vatican City and Poland, marked the 100th anniversary of St. John Paul II's birth (18 May 1920). The MS includes six €1,15 stamps and six envelope seals. The stamp includes a photo from the pope's 1988 visit to Australia and the seals include photos of John Paul with his mother, with Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski, and as Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Square. Artist A. Sobczyriska designed the MS.
In a message to Poland to young people in the Diocese of Krakow, Pope Francis stated,
"Saint John Paul II was an extraordinary gift of God to the Church and to Poland, your motherland. His earthly pilgrimage, which began on 18 May 1920 in Wadowice and ended 15 years ago in Rome, was marked by his passion for life and by a fascination with the mystery of God, of the world, and of humankind."
