2020 marked the 2,200th anniversary of the city of Aquileia, Italy, located at the head of the Adriatic Sea. The current Renaissance era basilica dates to the years following the Edict of Milan (313) which granted Christianity freedom to exist alongside other religions in the Roman Empire. The Basilica of Aquileia is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and to Saints Hermagoras and Fortunatus. Over the years, the church has been rebuilt four times. Aquileia is recognized not only for its architecture but the long history and enduring Christian presence in Italy. <br><br>The four-color €1,10 stamp by artist Maria C. Perrini depicts the front of the Basilica of Aquileia and its bell tower. The stamp is a joint issue with Italy and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM). In addition to the stamp, a special folder was produced for this issue, also a joint issue with Italy and SMOM. It contains a block of four stamps from each postal administration as well as a cancelled first day cover, offered at €30. <br><br>
