Ukrainian artist Vitally Shtanko created the Easter stamp for 2021 issued in a single €1,15 value in sheets of 10. The design is set during the evening of Easter Sunday.
As recorded in Luke 24:13-34, two of the disciples were traveling to Emmaus where they were approached and accompanied by an unrecognized man who later revealed himself as Jesus. They returned to Jerusalem where the disciples were gathered behind locked doors and told of their experience, and how Jesus made himself known through the breaking of bread.
Luke's Gospel continues (24:36-40), as Jesus then appeared in their midst and the disciples were initially frightened. Jesus asked them,
"Why are you troubled, and why do questionings rise in your hearts?"
The Vatican Post brochure suggests this is the question the Lord asked of us in the time of the pandemic. Christ's wounds shown to the Apostles are signs of God's love. Pope Francis says
"the faithful love of God...helps us leave our doubts."
