2022 marked the 500th anniversary of the conversion of St. Ignatius of Loyola. While recovering after suffering a leg injury in battle, Ignatius entrusted himself to St. Peter. During this time, he read books that allowed him to become fascinated by Jesus and the activities of those who spent their lives following him. This experience gave him a spiritual understanding and an experiential knowledge of how God is active in daily life that is acquired through disciplined spiritual practice. His condition improved on the feast of St. Peter the Apostle. St. Ignatius' feast day is celebrated on July 31.

The €1.15 stamp and the miniature sheet were designed by Spanish Artist Raoul Berzosa. They depict the moment of the Saint's conversion. In the background we see the letters HIS 
 - "Jesus Hominum Salvador" (Jesus the Savior of Mankind) which is the coat of arms for the Jesuits.
