The World Day of the Poor is a Roman Catholic observance celebrated on the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time since 2017. It was established by Pope Francis in his Apostolic Letter,
Misericordia et Misera
, issued on 20 November 2016 to celebrate the end of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Everyone should involve themselves in the World Day of the Poor. Check out the reference below that provides 6 suggestions on getting involved.
Sunday 14 November 2021 was the 5th World Day of the Poor with the theme of “let us love, not with words but with deeds.” The Christian is called to follow the example of Jesus in loving God and neighbor, especially the most vulnerable.
A miniature sheet composed of three sets of two postage stamps highlight the two pivotal moments of this day: the celebration of Mass, and the meal shared with the poor. The €1,10 stamp shows a moment during the lunch in which Pope Francis converses casually with the guests, while the €1,15 stamp shows the Holy Father celebrating the Eucharist. The image reproduced on the left of sheet is a photo taken during the 2nd World Day of the Poor featuring the Pope as he welcomes two of the guests.
