The twentieth anniversary of the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia in Oceania of Saint John Paul II offered Vatican Philately the opportunity to begin a "virtual" pilgrimage around the world in preparation for the Jubilee 2025. The itinerary consists of an annual issue of a miniature sheet for each geographical area. In the philatelic sheet, the representation of a people on their way to meet Christ will mark the continuity of the issues, while the stamp will name the featured continent.
The first issue is dedicated to Oceania.
The €3,00 postage stamp depicts this geographical area and next to it Our Lady of the Southern Cross, Help of Christians, whose shrine is located in Australia. The title of the image is: "Our Lady of the Southern Cross" because it refers to the constellation that can only be seen in the southern hemisphere to which Oceania belongs, and in this way providing the same function that the North Star has in the northern hemisphere.
