Concordat signed between the Latvian government and the Vatican on 30 May 1922 by Latvian foreign minister Zigfrīds Meierovics and Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Gasparri. Ratifications were exchanged at the Vatican on 3 November 1922 by Latvian deputy foreign minister Hermanis Albats and Cardinal Gasparri, and the agreement became effective on the same day. It was registered in League of Nations Treaty Series on 16 June 1923.The concordat became obsolete in 2000, as it was replaced by a new agreement between the Holy See and Latvia. 
On 14 March 2022, in the Vatican, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with His Holiness Pope Francis, head of the Roman Catholic Church, for a discussion on current foreign policy issues and its impact on the security situation in the region and across Europe. The matters of bilateral relations were also discussed. The Foreign Minister noted the excellent century-long relationship between Latvia and the Holy See in the spirit of sincerity and confidence, and he thanked the Holy See for its firm stance of not recognizing the incorporation of Latvia into the USSR. 2022 also saw the centenary since the signing and coming into effect of a Concordat between the Republic of Latvia and the Holy See. The Minister highlighted the successful dialogue of the Latvian state with Christian denominations in the country as an example of ecumenism. 
The €1,25 commemorative stamp for this anniversary features the logo created by Latvijas Pasts for the celebrations tied to the event where the Latvian and Vatican flags merge to form the number 100, a graphic and visual reminder of the centennial, but also of the union and concord that bind the two states.
