The 2013 postcard issue commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Cappella Giulia, founded by Pope Julius II (Giuliano della Rovere) (1503-1513). Created by a papal bull in 1513, the Cappella Giulia became an acclaimed choral group associated with leading composers. The choir serves at masses of the Vatican Chapter Clergy, ceremonies not presided over by the pope. Their music emphasizes Gregorian Chant and polyphonic lyrics. On special occasions such as Easter or Christmas, the Cappella Giulia and the Sistine Chapel Choir may perform together. 
The postcards feature Cappella Giulia composers/ conductors from the 16th to the 20th centuries: Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (d. 1594), Ruggiero Giovannelli (d. 1625), Niccolò Antonio Zingarelli (d. 1837), Salvatore Meluzzi (d. 1897), and Ernesto Boezi (d. 1937). 
(€0,70) - Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (c. 1525 – 2 February 1594) was an Italian composer of late Renaissance music. Primarily known for his 105 masses and 250 motets, Palestrina had a long-lasting influence on the development of church and secular music in Europe, especially on the development of counterpoint. 
(€0,85) - Ruggiero Giovannelli (c. 1560 – 7 January 1625) was an Italian composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras. He composed and published a large number of secular pieces. He is noted for his church music, most of which also survives in manuscript. 
(€0,85) - Niccolò Antonio Zingarelli (4 April 1752 – 5 May 1837) was an Italian composer, primarily opera. He wrote 37 mainly comic operas in a prolific career. 
(€2,00) - Salvatore Meluzzi (22 July 1813 – 17 April 1897) was an Italian organist, composer, choir director and teacher. He wrote masses, Requiems, antiphons, motets, hymns, and Psalms. Among his best pieces are a Stabat Mater and a Miserere. 
(€2,50) - Ernesto Boezi (2 November 1856 - 30 December 1946), an Italian composer, conductor, performer and director. He is best known for his Funeral Mass. 
The postcard cover contains a photo of the Cappella Giulia at St. Peter's Basilica. Sheet music appears on the postcard indicia.
