Eighth Birth Centenary of St. Elizabeth of Hungary
Scott 1365 (2007)
Elizabeth, Saint of Hungary and Thuringia and daughter of King Andrew II, was born near Pressburg (present-day Bratislava) eight centuries ago. As
Landgräfin
of Thuringia and
Châtelaine
of Wartburg Castle, she founded a hospital for the needy and distributed her personal possessions to them. After the death of her husband Ludovico IV, she entered the Franciscan Third Order. She died in Marburg, Germany in 1231 and only four years later was canonized.
