Look carefully at the attached stamp. It came from my priest friend in Rome in his Christmas card. I would assume it is from a recent letter my priest friend had received. The stamps are (left) Scott #1647 - Pontificate of Pope Francis [2017] and (right) Scott #1682 - European Year of Cultural Heritage - Belvedere Apollo.
What caught my interest was the postmark. Notice the center of the postmark. Looks to me to be “2.9.-9. “, like there is something after the -9. that didn’t appear. Some characters possibly missing due the amount of pressure applied when the postmark was applied. The “C” in the bottom of the bottom moon would indicate it came canceled at the Central Post Office.
In my collection of recent postmarks (

) does not a device type “6” in the upper moon example that this postmark could be compared with. None of my recently collected postmarks have the -9 in the center line so far to the left (in relation to the 6 device type number above).
I wonder if this is a completely different device type from all of the cancellations in my recent postmark collection. I will have to keep searching for other examples, if I can get them.
If someone has a postmark to compare to this one, contact me (Marvin Lanahan mlanahan404@comcast.net). I'd like to see what you have.
