The first meter was installed in early 1933 and used by the newspaper I’Illustrazione Vaticana. No other meter was used in the Vatican until 1942. Recently VPS Greg Priozzi passed along some material on meter stamps which can be found on the Exhibit page of our website. Additionally, over the years
Vatican Notes
has published a lot of material on meter stamps. Type the word "meter" into the VPS Index search box and you get 10 difference responses of on-line
Vatican Notes
viewable articles.
Another place to look for meter stamp information on the VPS Cancellation Research Project by clicking on the Everyday Cancels box. Go down to type XX and you will see the meter stamp information thus far collected from past issues of
Vatican Notes
.
The VPS Cancellation Research Project is a on-going attempt to gather information on Vatican Postmarks. VPS members can contribute scanned copies of postmarks to the collection.
