Today's Page 2 link brings the reader to the last excerpt from the article written in 1954 by the first president of the Vatican Philatelic Society, William Wonneberger, "The Vatican's Postage Stamps". Today's entry looks at the first semi-postal stamps from Vatican City, issued to help defray the costs for the special Holy Year of 1933.
 
The article by Mr. Wonneberger first appeared in the book Vatican, published by the National Philatelic Museum in conjunction with the Vatican Marian Year Philatelic Exhibition, held at the Museum in September, 1954. We are thankful that the Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History has granted us permission to reproduce the contents of the book, supplemented with images of the stamps from the issue. 
We hope you have enjoyed this look back at the classic first stamps from Vatican City, and the comprehensive review provided by Mr. Wonneberger seventy years ago. We are fortunate that his insights were memorialized in the article, which provides a valuable reference for all those interested in the philately of the Vatican.
