On August 20, Vatican Poste announced the upcoming release of a new stamp to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The date of release will be Sunday, September 7.
 
This stamp was not listed as one of the issues for the 2025 year, and it is the third stamp being issued, it appears, outside of the normal quarterly release schedule. Stamps for the canonizations of Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati are also being released on September 7 (the date of their canonization Mass).
 
The announcement on the Vatican Poste website provides the following regarding the significance of this release:

”It was November 1, 1950 when Pope Pius XII, with the Apostolic Constitution ‘Munificentissimus Deus’, declared that the Immaculate Mother of God, Mary, ‘having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.’
 
This year's philatelic program could not fail to include a commemoration of this dogma of faith, which intertwines popular devotion with an ever-present message capable of illuminating the vocation of every man and woman.”

The article does not have an image of the new stamp, but it does display three paintings depicting the Assumption (or "dormition") of the Blessed Mother. Perhaps one of these works of art serves as the inspiration for the new stamp.
