Boston 2026 Wrap-Up
The Boston 2026 World Expo concluded on Saturday, May 30, capping off the eight-day stamp exposition held every ten years in the United States. The event was filled with exhibits, presentations and opportunities to meet fellow collectors and grow one’s enjoyment of philately.
The Vatican Philatelic Society get-together on Thursday of the Expo was a great success, where both members of our society and non-members interested in Vatican philately had an opportunity to meet informally and look over items from the Vatican City State. Past issues of
Vatican Notes
were presented for review, as were items such as album pages, philatelic folders and other collectable items tied to the Vatican. A slide show was also presented to call attention to the benefits of VPS membership (the slide show can be accessed on the home page of the VPS Website).
Photos and additional articles from the Expo will be presented in the near future. Many thanks to all who attended, particularly the members of VPS who were attending Boston 2026 and stopped by the meeting. It was a wonderful opportunity to put a “name to a face” as we got together to enjoy our hobby on a grand scale.
New Vatican Special Postmarks
This past week the Vatican Post Office announced the release two special postmarks to be used in the upcoming weeks.
The first postmark celebrates the centenary of the Coronation of the Virgin of the Sagrario of Toledo and was released on May 30. The Virgin of the Sagrario (Our Lady of the Tabernacle) is the patroness of Toledo, Spain, and is housed there in the Primatial Metropolitan Cathedral. Her Canonical Coronation took place on May 30, 1926.
The second postmark is being issued in advance of Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic journey to Spain, which begins this coming Saturday, June 6. The trip will cover seven days, through June 12, with stops in Madrid, Barcelona and the Canary Islands. The postmark will be placed in service on June 6 and features the official logo of the trip, with the motto “Alzad la mirada”, (or “Look Up”), which is taken from the Gospel of John (“Lift up your eyes”, John 4:35).
