Answer: Saint Alphonsus holding a crucifix and the Theologia Moralis

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy, the Vatican issued a commemorative stamp and special postmark on November 4, 2024. The stamp, valued at €1.25, features a composite artwork by Maestro Giuseppe Antonio Lomuscio. It prominently depicts Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori—patron of moral theologians and founder of the Redemptorist Congregation—holding a crucifix and a copy of his seminal work, Theologia Moralis. This visual underscore his dual identity as both a theologian and a spiritual guide. In the background, the stamp also illustrates his charitable and evangelizing mission, reflecting the Academy’s ongoing commitment to moral theology rooted in human dignity and Christian values.

The accompanying circular postmark, used at the “Arco delle Campane” post office on November 4–5, 2024, was inspired by the statue of Saint Alphonsus housed in the Academy’s Aula Magna. It includes the inscriptions “75° FONDAZIONE DELLA PONTIFICIA ACCADEMIA ALFONSIANA,” “POSTE VATICANE,” and “DIE EMISSIONIS 04.11.2024,” further anchoring the philatelic tribute in the Academy’s historical and spiritual legacy.
