Which element depicted on the 2024 Vatican stamp commemorating the Bicentennial of the Sant’Apollinare Institute symbolizes eternity?

The dome of the Institute’s chapel
   The bishop’s crozier
   Evergreen plants
   The Roman numeral inscription

Your answer was: The dome of the Institute’s chapel.

Answer: Evergreen plants

To mark the 200th anniversary of the Pontifical Institute of Sant’Apollinare, the Vatican issued a commemorative €1.30 stamp on November 4, 2024, accompanied by a special circular postmark. The stamp, designed by Patrizio Daniele and printed by Bpost (Belgium), features two key visual elements: the building of the Institute and a mosaic detail from the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe in Ravenna. This mosaic, dating back to 533–549 AD, portrays Saint Apollinaris in episcopal vestments with arms raised in prayer, surrounded by evergreen plants. These plants are not merely decorative—they carry deep symbolic meaning, representing eternity and the enduring nature of faith and spiritual formation. The special postmark, used at the Vatican’s “Arco delle Campane” post office, echoes this imagery, reinforcing the Institute’s legacy as a center of theological and philosophical education rooted in timeless values.
