Answer: Laocoon was the Trojan Priest who opposed the wooden horse, a gift from the Greeks, to enter the walls of Troy? The remarkable sculpture of Lancoon (42-20BC) was re-discovered in a vineyard near Rome in 1506. Immediately purchased by Pope Julius II, it was brought to the Vatican. The sculpture is one of the most studied and emulated of works during the Renaissance and in subsequent periods.
