The Daily Question

St. Basil contributed tremendously to the development of monasticism. He believed that there must be a balance between ___________________ .

   work and prayer
   study and preaching
   prayer and study
   teaching and prayer

Your answer was: work and prayer.
You are correct!!

Answer: I posed this question to a Dominican priest friend of mine and his first response was that all of the answers are true. However, after some discussion, if one answer had to be picked, he agreed that the balance of "work and prayer" would probably be the best answer as St. Dominic, St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Benedict later expanded on St. Basil's ideas, each making refinements to monastic practices. So, for the purposes of this question, I'll go with "work and prayer" because the article from which I got the idea of this question stated that St. Basil had been "credited with coordinating the duties of work and prayer".
