Answer: The Union of Brest-Litovsk was the 1595-96 decision of the Orthodox bishops in the region of what is modern Ukraine, Poland, and Belarus dioceses to break relations with the Eastern Orthodox Church and to enter into communion with and place itself under the authority of the Pope of Rome in order to avoid being ruled by the newly established Patriarch of Moscow. The Union of Uzhorod was the 1646 decision of 63 Ruthenian Orthodox priests from the south slopes of the Carpathian Mountains, then within the Kingdom of Hungary, to join the Catholic Church on terms similar to the Union of Brest-Litovsk from 1596 in the lands of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The modern result of this union is the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church. 'The Union of Brest-Litovsk' on Oca.org CLICK HERE for more detail on 'The Union of Uzhorod' on Ewtn, com
