Answer: Pope Julius II founded the Vatican Museums in the early 16th century then established a State Collection of classical sculpture. The first actual museum, open to the public, was promoted by Pope Clement XIV and Pope Pius VI and is now known as Pius-Clementine Museum. The Vatican Museums is a complex of 26 museums.
