Answer: William Wonneberger, Jr, founder of the Vatican Philatelic Society, writing in Vatican Notes (May 2003) pointed out that 45 different perforation varieties have been documented in the 1946 Council of Trent series and there could be more. Somebody found an interest and began to study it. Updated information on this fact was not able to be found. Does anybody have an update on this? Mr. Wonneberger's article "Do Research Opportunities Exist In Vatican Philately? Is Specialty Cut and Dried?" is an interesting read. The basic point of his article was that there are lots of research avenues still open to Vatican stamp collectors and the pursuit of philatelic study has many rewards.
