Your answer was: Pontifical Council Cor Unum. |
Answer: The Pontifical Council Cor Unum was established by Pope Paul VI on 15 July 1971. The name of the Pontifical Council means 'one heart', which Paul VI explained in 1972: 'So we were able to give your ecclesial action for aid the name of one heart, a heart that beats in rhythm with the heart of Christ, whose pity for the hungry multitudes reaches them even in their spiritual hunger'. The Holy Father is able to draw close to those who are suffering around the world through the Pontifical Council Cor Unum. Whenever a natural or manmade disaster occurs, Cor Unum immediately acts in the name of the Pope to help alleviate the suffering of those affected. This solidarity can consist of a visit by Cor Unum or of material assistance provided through the generosity of individuals who share the Pope's concern for those in difficulty. Today it is impossible to speak about the Pontifical Council Cor Unum without mentioning the encyclical Deus Caritas Est of Pope Benedict XVI. Because it is in this encyclical that the Holy Father explains how Christians should engage in authentic charitable activity and also the special nature of Christian charity.
