Answer: The scene used for the 1998 Vatican Christmas stamp was painted by the Italian High Renaissance artist Giulio Clovio (1498 – 1578). He was an illuminator, miniaturist, and painter. He was born in the Kingdom of Croatia. The Vatican celebrated the 500th anniversary of Clovio's birth by selecting his Nativity scene for the 1998 Christmas stamp image. This stamp was jointly issued with Croatia.
