The Daily Question

What early Christian started a lay order of women attached to the Benedictines called the Oblates of Mary in Rome? She had the gift of miracles and ecstasy, as well as the bodily vision of her guardian angel.

   Saintt Alexis
   Saint Vannozza
   Saint Francesca
   Saint Agnes

Your answer was: Saint Francesca.
You are correct!!

Answer: In 1384 Francesca was born in the city of Rome to a wealthy, noble family. Married at age 13 she put aside her dream of becoming a nun, carrying out the wishes of her family, She went through a lot of frustration over not becoming a nun but eventually began helping the poor, visiting prisons, serving in hospitals, and setting up a secret chapel in an abandoned tower. She got other women to join her and united them in an association of oblates attached to the White Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria Nuova which later became the Benedictine Oblate Congregation of Tor di Specchi (March 25th, 1433) and the order was approved by Eugene IV ( July 4th, 1433).

Spiritually, Francesca had the gift of miracles and ecstasy. She had bodily vision of her guardian angel and had revelations concerning purgatory and hell, Her last words were 'The angel has finished his task -- he beckons me to follow him.'
