Answer: St. Thomas Aquinas died, on March 7, 1274, and was buried by the monks at a Cistercian Abbey. Fearful that the body would be stolen, it was exhumed from its resting place and the head was cut off. At that time his sister was given a hand and a finger. In 1368 Pope Urban V decreed that his remains be transferred from Italy to where he died in France. In 1396 the bones were moved to the Dominican monastery Toulouse, France. During the French Revolution, his bones were relocated to the church of St. Sernin for safekeeping. The bones of St Thomas Aquinas are normally kept under the altar at the monastery in Toulouse, France. The skull ended up as a “Holy Relic” in the Fossonova Abbey outside Rome. The left arm of St Thomas Aquinas is at the basilica of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples Italy.
