The Daily Question

On February 6, 2018, Vatican City issued a stamp to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the assassination of this priest, who was killed on the island of Sicily in retaliation for his efforts to shield the youth of Palermo from the influence of the Mafia. What was the name of that priest?

   Father Junipero Serra
   Father Marcellino Champagnat
   Father Giuseppe Puglisi
   Father Angelo Secchi

Your answer was: Father Giuseppe Puglisi.
You are correct!!

Answer: Father Giuseppe "Pino" Puglisi was a Roman Catholic priest living in Palermo, Sicily. The neighborhood of Brancaccio was controlled by the Mafia, but Father "Pino" challenged that control by opening his church to the youth of the neighborhood and getting them off the streets and into a safer environment. He was killed on his 56th birthday, September 15, 1993. He is the first person killed by the Mafia to be declared Blessed by the Catholic Church.
