Your answer was: Eucharistic Congress. |
Answer: The International Eucharistic Congress is a gathering of ecclesiastics and laymen for the purpose of celebrating and glorifying the Holy Eucharist and of seeking the best means to spread its knowledge and love throughout the world. Congresses bring together people from a wide area, and typically involve large open-air Masses, Eucharistic adoration, and other devotional ceremonies held over several days. The first congress owed its inspiration to Bishop Gaston de Ségur, and was held at Lille, France, June 21, 1881. The idea at first was merely local and met with few adherents, but it grew from year to year with an ever-increasing importance. Prior to 1952, except for periods of World War I and World War II, the Eucharist Congress met frequently. They have since met on the average every 3-5 years, each time at a different location. The United States hosted the event in Chicago in 1926 and again in Philadelphia in 1976. The last meeting was held in Budapest, Hungry in 2021. The 54th Eucharistic Congress is scheduled for 2024 in Quito, Ecuador. 'International Eucharistic Congresses Origin and Development' by Bishop John W Yanta on CatholicExchange.com.
