This document states that before 1059 there was no exact procedure for selecting Popes. Over the years a set of procedures did evolve and after1294 all papal elections followed the "rules" for conclave procedures. In 1492 papal conclave was convened after the death of Pope Innocent VIII according to the various "rules" that had been established. According to Wikipedia, it was the first papal conclave to be held in the Sistine Chapel. According to the book Timeline Of The Popes: A History From St. Peter To Frances by Gordon Kerr (copyright 2013), the Pope elected in 1492 was Roderic Llancoli de Bognia, who bought enough votes to become Pope Alexander VI. |
