Scott C60-C62 (1976)

A new series of airmail stamps was issued on February 19th, 1976. There are three stamps in the series, of three different values, 500, 1000, and 2500 lire, totaling 4000 lire. Depicted on each stamp is a different image of figures of angels and the Blessed taken from Michelangelo's fresco of the Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel.

Alceo Quieti designed and engraved the stamps of this series. Printed in sheets of 20, they are in vertical form, and on the left side, they carry, vertically, the inscription POSTA AEREA VATICANA. The values 500 and 1000 are printed in the upper right and the value 2500 in the upper left.

Each measures 30 x 40 mm and has 13-1/4 x 14 perforations. The printing was done by copper engraving and offset in two colors on white glossy paper, by the Polygraphic Institute of the Italian State. The complete printing amounts to 900,000 series.
