I collect stamps the way others collect memories. Each one is a scene, a costume, a spotlight on history. And some even come with applause—in the form of rare postmarks!
Tonight, I attended the ship’s theatrical performance “Islands of Light”, a musical journey through Caribbean folklore. He arrived early, tuxedo gleaming, and took his seat beside a retired philatelist from Bruges. We exchanged nods and quietly admired the velvet curtain folds.
During intermission, told everyone I found the 1949 Vatican stamp commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union particularly moving. It’s a reminder that even across oceans, we remain connected by ink and intention.

75th Anniversary UPU: Angels, Hand in Hand, Flying Above the Globe (1949 Scott C18)
Philatelic Reflection: As the ship gently rocked beneath the stars, I reflected on the 1949 UPU commemorative—a stamp that depicted Mercury, messenger of the gods, soaring across the globe. Issued by the Vatican to honor international cooperation in mail delivery, it symbolized unity across borders and belief systems.
Tonight, that symbolism felt especially poignant. Five days at sea, no ports in sight, yet every passenger carried stories, letters, and memories—some stamped, some spoken. The I pondered how stamps are like theater: small, expressive, and meant to be shared.
Cruise Notes:
• Theater performance: 4 standing ovations
• Tuxedo comfort: 9.2/10 (minor creasing at servo joints)
• Next activity: Stargazing on Deck 11 with cocoa and quiet contemplation
It is hard to search for pirates when you are busy eating ice cream!
