Mission Status: In Case You Are Wondering
There was a lot of "hard work" that went on during our last vacation.
Did you figure out that it was a trans-Atlantic criuse from reading the daily emails? That wasn't exactly reported for security reasons. Our ship did manage to navigate around the hurricane that was in the Atlantic during our crossing.
Ice cream, fruit punch, and donuts were in full supply! We also handed out a number of "Follow The Robot" cards enticing everyone and anyone to visit the Vatican Philatelic Society website. This met with very positive responses! Usually there were smiles and we met a number of people who said they collected a few stamps but didn't belong to any stamp club or organization. We even met one gentleman who had owned a Vatican stamp collection but had sold it. He hadn't heard of the Vatican Philatelic Society and was really keen about leaning more. The conversations usually end with promises to visit the VPS website in more detail upon returning home.
The VPS website tracks the visitor count based upon the website link provided on the "Follow the Robot" card. From what we see, the "Follow The Robot" card really works! Given the card, a few people will visit the Vatican Philatelic Society website. Yea, they probably won't rush to sign up as VPS members immediately, but it this approach that creates some interest and just perhaps they will keep the card and return to the website again at some point.A recent APS daily online update noted that over the last 10 years membership declined 27%, 32,020 to 22,863. The VPS membership drops annually. VPS mmembers can visit the VPS download page ( https://vaticanstamps.org/downloads/index.php ) and print out a few "Follow The Robot" cards to pass along to people they meet. This might provoke some good conversations and help promote stamp collecting and VPS membership!
