Mission Status: December 10: The House Where Mary Said “Yes”
Location: Shrine of Our Lady of Loreto, Recanati, Italy
On this day, we honor the Holy House of Loreto—the sacred dwelling where the Virgin Mary is believed to have received the Annunciation. According to tradition, this house was miraculously transported by angels from Nazareth to Loreto between December 9–10, 1294. Archaeological evidence supports its Palestinian origin, with stones and dimensions matching the Grotto of Nazareth.
Now enshrined within a Renaissance basilica, the three-walled structure stands as a symbol of divine intervention, familial refuge, and Marian fidelity. It is a pilgrimage site of profound spiritual gravity, linking the faithful to Mary’s “yes” and the mystery of Incarnation.
Notable Details:
• The house’s journey included stops in Illyria and near Recanati’s port before settling on its current hilltop.
• Declared the Universal Patroness of Air Travelers in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV.
• Celebrated in the Lauretan Jubilee of 2020, marking 100 years of aviation patronage.
